DETAILED INFORMATION ON OUR ADHESIVES AND SOLDERING KIT
DR. MIKE'S MODEL'N CRAFTERS GLUE AND DR. MIKE'S 2 MODEL'N CRAFTERS GLUE
Dr. Mike’s Model’n Crafter’s Glue original and Dr. Mike’s 2 Model’n Crafter’s Glue are both Cyanoacrylates,
commonly known as CAs. Both use ‘molecular integration’ to form bonds between like or dissimilar materials,
especially RESIN and WOOD parts. The joints become stronger than the material and both adhesives are
stronger than other CA adhesives. This "shock resistant" formulation has an extended shelf-life of
up to eight months after opening. Unlike most other superglues that work with moisture in the air, both
cure when the oxygen is taken away.
These CAs will bond DELRIN and work extremely well with other materials, such as,
ABS, ACRYLIC, ALUMININUM, BRASS, BRONZE, CAST IRON, COPPER, CRYSTAL, GLASS, GRAPHITE,
LEATHER, LUAN, NYLON, PEWTER, PORCELAIN, RUBBER, STYRENE, STEEL and MATERIALS THAT
CARRY PETROLIUM.
One small drop applied carefully to one of the parts to be joined with a cut off sewing needle or piece of wire
is all that is needed for a superior bond. Although it will bond immediately they reach maximum strength if left
to cure for 24 hours or within seconds when using any good accelerator.
LIGHTNING BOND
Lightning Bond is our Hi-Tech, one part, industrial strength CA that like Dr. Mike's use ‘molecular integration’
to form bonds between like or dissimilar materials. such as: ABS, Acrylics, Aluminum, Brass, China,
Copper, Glass, Graphite, Hard PVC, Leather, Luan, Steel, Plexiglas, Porcelain, Resin, Rubber and
Wood.
Wthin seconds a bond is made and as the adhesive cures (about five minutes) the joint become stronger
than the material. This "shock resistant" formulation has an extended shelf-life of up to three years
after opening. Unlike most other superglues that work with moisture in the air, it cures when the oxygen is
taken away. Packaged with a micro balloon filler, Lightning Fill. When Lightning Bond and Lightning Fill are
combined they create a joint that is not only stronger that the material bonded but the joint is machineable.
The filler is used when there is a need to further reinforce joints and for repairs to replace a missing part, to
fill in a hole, etc. When Lightning Bond and Lightning Fill are combined they create a joint that is not only
stronger that the material bonded but the joint is machinable and can be drilled and tapped.
The amazing thing is that you can leave either glue open all day long and neither will dry out. Lightning
Bond's shelf life is up to three years after opening with storage temperatures of 70 degrees or less and Dr.
Mike's has up to an eight month shelf life after opening kept a 70 degrees or below. Refrigeration is fine for
either.
RICKETY RAILS SOLDERING KIT
The kit contains about 4 grams each of two Carr's lead based solders, a Lowmelt (C70/F158) for soldering
pewter to brass and another Detail (C145/F293) for soldering brass to brass, and about 3/4 ounce of Fry's
Waterflow Flux. This is the best mix of solder and flux I've found in over 50 years of building in brass. The kit
contains a sufficient amount to build two 'O' scale brass or brass and pewter locomotives.
